Questions families ask
The questions families ask us, with the numbers
Our Home Healthcare is a nurse-led home care agency in Edgewater, Florida, and these are the 18 questions families ask most, answered with our real numbers. Care starts within 48 hours. Hourly care is $32 an hour. The same caregiver comes every week. A nurse is on every case. If your question is not here, Jordan answers the phone.

Starting care
How does care start
The questions families ask on the first call, before anyone has come to the house.
hour at most before Jordan calls you back, day or night, after your call or the form.
hours at most before Priya or Dana is at the house for the free visit. About an hour long.
hours at most from your first call to the first shift, with a caregiver Jordan picked for the person.
How fast can care start
Within 48 hours of your call. Jordan calls you back within the hour. Priya or Dana, both registered nurses, visit the house within 24 hours for a free assessment that takes about an hour. The first shift happens within 48 hours of your first call. If your father is being discharged tomorrow, call today and a nurse can be at the house the day he gets home.
What happens on the first call
You talk to a person, never a phone tree. Jordan asks who the care is for, what is going on this week, what help is needed, where the house is and when you want to start. The call takes 10 to 15 minutes. You decide nothing on it. Jordan books a nurse visit for a time within the next 24 hours, often the same day.
Is the in-home visit really free
Yes. Priya Ramnath, RN, or Dana Whitfield, RN, comes to the house, spends about an hour, and writes a plan of care that is yours whether you hire us or not. Tom turns the plan into an exact weekly price the same day. There is nothing to sign on the spot, no deposit and no fee for the visit.
Do I have to sign a contract
No. There is no contract, no deposit and no setup fee. You pay weekly for the hours used. You can stop any time with 48 hours notice, and you can start again later by calling Jordan. The care is the reason families stay with us. Linda in New Smyrna Beach has stayed 2 years because Rosa still comes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The caregivers
Who comes to the house
Who the caregivers are, who trains them, and what happens when a match is wrong.
Will it be the same caregiver every time
Yes, that is the plan from day 1. Every client has a primary caregiver and 1 trained backup who has met the person and read the plan of care. In the first 90 days you meet at most 3 caregivers, counting Carla, who shadows every new caregiver on their first 3 shifts. If the primary caregiver is sick, the backup comes, and Jordan calls you before the shift to say so.
Are your caregivers employees or contractors
Employees. All 64 of our CNAs and home health aides are W-2 employees of Our Home Healthcare, Level 2 background screened, drug tested and CPR certified, and insured and bonded through us. They stay an average of 4.1 years. We pay $18 to $23 an hour, same-week pay, mileage and a $500 bonus at 1 year, which is a large part of why they stay.
How are the caregivers trained
Carla Jimenez, CNA, our lead caregiver, runs a paid 2-week onboarding for every new hire and then shadows them on their first 3 shifts. Priya, our nurse, trains the caregivers on wounds, medications and dementia care. Every caregiver can call a nurse on every shift. Nobody is sent to a house alone on day 1.
What if we do not like the caregiver
Tell Jordan and we change the caregiver within a week, no questions asked. You do not have to explain it. The backup caregiver usually covers the gap because they already know the house and the plan. A wrong match is our mistake to fix, and fixing it costs you nothing. You still meet at most 3 caregivers in your first 90 days.
Who answers the phone at night
A nurse. (386) 272-6048 rings in the Edgewater office from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, and rings through to the on-call nurse at every other hour. No answering service, no phone tree, no voicemail. Dana takes the night line herself 1 week in 5. Joan in Edgewater called at 11 at night when Bill fell, and a nurse picked up.
Cost and paying
What does it cost and how do you pay
Every rate is on the pricing page. These are the questions families ask about it.
an hour for personal, companion and homemaker care on weekdays. $36 on weekends and holidays. 4-hour minimum per visit.
deposit, contract or setup fee. The in-home nurse visit is free. You pay weekly for the hours used.
hours notice to stop. No penalty, no fee, and you can start again later with a call to Jordan.
How much does home care cost
$32 an hour on weekdays and $36 an hour on weekends and holidays, with a 4-hour minimum per visit. An awake overnight caregiver is $360 for 12 hours. 24-hour care in shifts is $720 a day and live-in care is $420 a day. A nursing visit is $95. Every rate is on the pricing page, and the free visit gives you an exact weekly price for your mother.
Is there a minimum number of hours
4 hours per visit. There is no weekly minimum and no contract. 3 mornings of 4 hours is 12 hours a week and costs $384. 5 weekdays of 6 hours is 30 hours and costs $960. A 4-hour visit is long enough for a shower, a meal, the pills and a walk without rushing your mother through any of it.
Do you take Medicare or Medicaid
No. We are a private duty agency and we are not Medicare certified. Medicare does not pay for a caregiver for bathing, meals, nights or company, from us or from anyone. We do not take Florida Medicaid either. Families pay privately, through a long-term care policy, or with the VA Aid and Attendance pension. If your mother is on Medicaid, call anyway and Jordan will point you to the right program.
Do you take long-term care insurance
Yes, and we bill the insurer for you. Tom Whitfield, our administrator, reads the policy, confirms the daily benefit and the elimination period, sends the insurer the care notes it asks for and follows the claim until it pays. You do not pay first and wait for a refund. Bring the policy to the free visit and Tom will read it the same week.
Can the VA help pay for care
Often, yes. Wartime veterans and their surviving spouses may qualify for the VA Aid and Attendance pension, which pays a monthly amount toward home care. Tom helps you put the application together, and we accept the benefit once it is approved. Bring the DD-214 discharge paper to the free visit and Tom will tell you whether it is worth applying.
Nursing and medical needs
What about nursing and medical needs
Where the caregiver stops, where the nurse starts, and how we work with the hospital and with hospice.
Is there a nurse involved
Yes, on every case, including companion-only clients. Priya Ramnath, RN, our nurse case manager, writes the plan of care, visits the house at least every 30 days and is the person you call when something changes. Florida requires a nurse visit every 60 days for aide services. We do twice that, and her visits are part of the hourly rate.
Can you give medications and injections
Caregivers give medication reminders and hand over what Priya has set out. Our RNs and LPNs do the medical part at $95 a visit. That covers medication setup and management, injections, wound and ostomy care, catheter care, vital signs, and checks for diabetes, heart failure and COPD. Priya also teaches you to do what is safe for you to do yourself.
Can you help the day after a hospital stay
Yes. The hospital to home program covers the first 30 days after a hospital or rehab stay for $2,400 flat. A nurse visits within 24 hours of discharge, sorts out the medications, books the follow-up appointments and drives to them, with a caregiver for the first nights. It includes 3 nurse visits and 40 caregiver hours. Mark's father in Port Orange came home on a Thursday and Priya was there Friday morning.
Do you work with hospice
Yes, alongside the hospice team and never instead of it. Hospice brings the nurse and the medicine. We bring the hours. Personal care, an overnight presence and company for the family when someone on hospice wants to stay home. Our caregivers follow the hospice nurse's plan, and Priya stays in touch with the hospice team so nobody is working from a different page.
