About 190 families a year. Most of them are in Southeast Volusia, within 25 miles of our office on US-1 in Edgewater, in the block homes of Florida Shores, the waterfront places along Riverside Drive, and the manufactured-home communities off US-1. 31 percent of the people in Edgewater are 65 or older, and a good number of them have a daughter in Orlando or a son in Atlanta who found us on a bad week.
Linda's mother in New Smyrna Beach needed 3 mornings a week. Mark's father in Port Orange needed the first 30 days after a hospital stay. Joan's husband Bill in Edgewater needed someone at night. Barbara in Ormond Beach needed 4 days off after 8 years of caring for Harold. Different families, the same 5 promises, and in every case the same caregiver came back.
